in the world of photography is getting acceptable pictures of trains at a model train show. At this weekend's "World's Greatest Hobby On Tour" show at the Del Mar Fairgrounds (San Diego), I got hundreds of photographs but only one that I was satisfied with:

Don't feel so bad. Every time I try to photograph at one of these shows, I swear that I got a bunch of great ones. That is until I upload them to my computer. Then I end up with only one or two that are worth a darn : (

great motion shot - of a tricky subject size too (i'm sure it'd be easier with full sized ones?)

what do you think of this place?

am trying to tie up a trip there with my Bro & his train-mad son

thank you for sharing

If you would like to adopt me and take me there, I would be agreeable.

Here in San Diego we have the largest model railroad in the United States at the San Diego Model Railroad Museum in Balboa Park: http://www.sdmrm.org/

Out of "hundreds" this is the only one that you were satisfied with? Are you representing the folding table and chairs lobby? Maybe there is some reason not clear to the rest of us for including some fat guy's pelvic area as a primary focal point?

Approximately 25% of this image is filled with distracting, should not be there, crap. Why not make this into the image that it can be, as the elements are there. . .if you would only complete your work on this image. Oh, and please don't give us any crap about being a purist and only wanting to go with your image as it comes out of the camera, because your taking the time to add your cute little edge and boarder belays that concept.

Now, I have downloaded your posted thumbnail image, and in less than a couple of minutes, turned your image into something that might actually merit comments like: "Wonderful" and "Great Shot". Even working with just the thumbnail image, and not a "saved original" image, I am pretty sure that most will like my fix here.

I am not trying to be mean or nasty here, I am trying to be honest and helpful. To help the OP, and others, learn how to see.

To comply with the rules, and not wanting to hijack your thread. . .I will NOT post my edited version, without your expressed permission.

There is a nice shot, wonderful image here in your capture, you just need to be able to see it, and then set it free!

I totally agree with you! Except for the fat guy's pelvic area being a "primary focal point." If you find that to be a primary focal point, I think you have vision problems.

As my wise old grandmother used to say, "What comes out of the camera is just the basics to start with." That is the only basic picture that I was satisfied with.

I didn't say that I was finished with that picture, only that it was the only picture that I was satisfied with.

I don't throw any pictures away, though, because I'm not a purist by any stretch of the imagination (see http://russelrayphotos2.com/2013/01/10/and-youll-have-fun-fun-fun-until-daddy-takes-your-filters-away/ as an example of my non-purist nature).

NO!! Your shot is not a failure by any means. The other day I took almost 200 pictures and was only able to give the family 45 pictures to choose from. It only takes that "ONE" picture to make a weekend worth while. I'd be proud to have that picture printed!! Keep up the good work....
