CA - wine country No of SanFransico - Napa Valley

The recent post of the Castle of Love - winery/castle as well as San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge as well as the Redwoods inspired me to put in my 2 cents about the area.
If one is coming from SF north across the GG then an immediate right turn after crossing will bring one to fantastic photo ops - stay to the right and get shots of SF & the GG - turn left at the first place on this road you can and go out on the Marin Headlands road for many more better photo ops of the GG, Alcatraz & SF.
Stay to the right off of the hwy and down into Saucalito for many many good photo ops.
Continue North and take the right turn to Sears Point and then No. West to Napa- turning north on hwy 29 towards St. Helena/Calastoga - so many wineries, homes & photo ops over the next 30 mi. - also the wine train from Napa is a good trip.
The roads make a nice loop around the valley- go all the way to Calistoga on #29 and then follow the Silverado Trail back to Napa and hwy 29.
Don't miss " Old Faithful" in Calastoga or a dip into the hot mineral baths if you want.

There are so many good place to eat and good wine you may want to stay a day or week. LMAO

Sounds good. Are you giving away all your secrets, or just a few? My grandparents took me through that area when I was 5 years old. Unfortunately, I remember my Tonka truck more than I remember Napa Valley! Oh well...

No - not giving away any secrets just trying to share some of my travels - the north end of the Napa Valley leads back west to the Redwoods which is another wonderful photo trip - Heck "All of Northern CA is a Photo Op " at every turn of the road.

A-Ha...Also in the area is the town of Sonoma. Here is where the first California Bear flag was flow. The estate of Gov. Vallejo, many interesting shops, wine stores and a nice square. Then out Hwy12 to Santa Rosa. Stay on Hwy 12 toward the town of Bodega. Visit the church & school where the "Birds" were filmed. A few more miles to the coast and Hwy 1 and some great fresh fish resturant$. Continue north on Hyw 1 along the rugged Sonoma Coastline. Visit Jenner at the mouth of the Russian River and watch the seals. East on Hwy 116 to Gurneville and turn left on Armstrong Woods Road. A Calif. State Park with giant Redwoods and a nice easy trail through a beautiful grove. Continue Check out Sonoma County's web page for more places and wine tasting.
Ferrari-Carano winery in Healdsburg is beautiful.

The mission in the center of Sonoma is a great photo op as well as a short drive - just a few blocks - to General Vallejo's estate - I won a 1st place with a film photo of his path around the small reservoir in the back yard. He had the water rights and supplied the area with running water thru wooden/wire wrapped pipes.
A few miles no. west towards Santa Rosa is the historical park that includes Jack London's home ( the retains of - as it burned at one time.)
So darn much to photo in Northern CA - the 75 mi above San Francisco can take a week of more to cover.
IMHO

Oh yes, photo ops are all over Sonoma County. Spring Wildflowers on the coast, fall colors of the vineyards, Luther Burbank gardens, the rugged coast, The old Russian fur traders Fort, "Fort Ross", Redwoods, Russian River, Petaluma victorian estates and hot air balloon gatherings.
Enjoy!
