I have canon rebel eos 500. What setting would I put it on to get the old brownish photoes?

I am not aware of a "setting". The color is changed either thru filters over the camera a lens, or, more commonly, in the editing software after download. Some cameras do have "in camera" filters that will change a picture after it is taken. Your Operator Manual should tell you if your camera has that capability.

It's called "sepia." I'm not sure where the setting is on Canon but should be in the photo enhancement or treatment menu, with greyscale/b&w, vivid, normal, etc.

Likewise, you can use a photo editor to change from color to sepia.

The canon software has the ability to make adjustments and get the sepia tone u desire. Or u can use any number of online or stand alone programs both free and paid to get the effect. You cant simply change a setting on the camera to get that.

I wish my camera had millions of settings with voice control. I'd say....:"better pitcher" all the time haha

Now there's a GREAT idea for those manufacturers of cameras - wonder how long before there WILL be voice recognition/control of some basic functions. HMMM.

Canon center button in the rear "daisy wheel", scroll down to "my colors", there is where you find the filters.

NICE PICTURES! I should try to do more with sepia tone.

BTW my Canon SD 1400 has a setting for sepia, as does my Nikon D 5100. With the D 5100, you really have to dig down deep in the "Menu."

That speech recognition idea is terrific. Send that idea to some of the manufacturers.

For a quick "old" look PS has a sepia Action. It's not the most creative old look around, but it is fast and it is a start. If you're doing this stuff "in camera" you're stuck with it…take a straight color shot and do your alterations with PS or other image editing software. NIK Silver Effects is a great filter for that sort of thing and you can get a free 30 day trial.

MarkDG - Looks like you've been in our barn! Ours is soooo cluttered. May have to try snooping around in it again after seeing your pictures.

I can visualize it now "people talking to their cameras" why not?
We now ignore people talking on their cell phones, except non-engaged drivers. Talking to our camera would attract attention, for a while.
In the future when voice recognition is perfected; I can not even imagine. off topic; I bought a Garmin Nuvi 3790 GPS that never recognized my voice; returned to BB.

I know that feeling. Several years ago I got one of the programs for the computer that was supposed to do voice recognition. Darn thing never did "learn" my Southern English!

I just bought an iPhone 4S. It has something called SIRI. Press the button and it asks how it can help. Ask something in plain English and it almost always responds and complies correctly.
I can see this applied to camera technology. Tell the camera, switch to HDR, use flash, etc."
