I turned 55 today and my wife suggested that today we could do whatever I wanted to do. I suggested that we go to a new camera store in our area that I had not been to yet. That might not have been a good decision. I was really frustrated with an ongoing problem on my Sony a230. I had been thinking about upgrading anyway for quite a while now. After talking to the sales person for about a half an hour and being able to play with all the nice things he had, I was beginning to fall in love with the Nikon D7000. The camera came as a kit with the 18-300 lens. I asked him if he had a 28-300 lens since I had read many good things about this lens and had heard some of you guys say nice things about this lens. When the sales person said that I could exchange the kit lens with the 28-300 and that he would give me two hundred Dollars off the price of the lens alone if I bought it with a camera, I was pretty much hooked. So I bought the camera with the 28-300 FX lens. Now I found out that I really have a lot to learn. This is one of the first shots I took with the camera. I'm very happy; but also a bit overwhelmed by the complexity compared to my Sony.

welcome to the D7000 your going to love it Might i recommend Darrel Youngs book Mastering the D7000
Thanks for the tip. I was thinking that I will certainly need a book! I bought the twenty Dollar DVD introduction to the camera. That helped. In March the shop that I bought the camera from will be having a 3 hour workshop on the 7000. I already signed up. So between those things and asking what will probably turn out to be an endless string of annoying questions on this forum, I might have a chance. Thanks again.

eb,
Judging by your picture you took, you are off to a very good start.
You just got the very best DX camera Nikon has ever made. Congratulations for finding a wife that would get you such a nice present and then buy the 28-300 lens as a Christmas present 10 months early. :)
Don't be shy with the questions as all of the guys and gals here will be happy to help.

I am envious!
Of what? The dog, the camera, the lens, the wife or all of the above? Someone with your talent and knowledge- envy, you must be kidding! :) :)
Thank you all for your good wishes. I ordered Darrel Young's book from Amazon and watched the video that I bought from the dealer. Can't wait till tomorrow. I gave myself the assignment to shoot my little town. If I get any good images, I'll post a picture or two. Thank you all.
