Daryl, as a 5yr "veteran?" of shooting rugby, having registered probably 300,000 rugby images and making many mistakes myself, I'd like to point out a few things...
First, your background is as nearly clear as your subject. Try shooting at a low aperture to blur the background. Sometimes you can't go to the limit as it will make your dof too shallow. Play with it and find that medium that works for you. Of course this can change from match to match.
Another small thing is your horizon is not straight. This still happens to me, but you can correct this easily in post. Be careful not to over correct this.
