1. One you are comfortable with that gives good results consistently.
2. One that has been thought out and properly composed and exposed. Not simply a snapshot.
3. Nikon DSLR for me.
4. This varies wildly depending upon the subject matter. About half my shots are wildlife so I much prefer shooting in Aperture Priority mode so as to closely control the depth of field.
5. 50% wildlife, 40% landscape, 10% architectural.

Not necessarily. But if you would like to provide that kind of information it would be helpful.
Thank you!

Jerry, I think you already provided that.
But it's still a DSLR kind of camera... despite the epic megapixels you enjoy!!

I thought she might want something more specific because I think most people who are serious about photography will use a DSLR.

1) A good camera is one with intuitive menu/controls.
2) Good photo is one which elicits a visceral response and is well-exposed, appropriately focused, and well composed.
3) Nikon DSLR (D300 to be more specific)
4) Settings are situational. But in this order: Manual, Aperture priority, shutter-priority, Program (almost never). Flash is always diffused and on manual output controlled from the camera
5) Macros first, landscapes second.

Hi Nancy,
good camera - one that does everything you want it to/will want to. NB it isn't made yet. You can't afford it and , importantly the camera isn't the be all and end all.
Good Photo - One that you enjoy so much that it hangs where you can see it every day.
Sony Alpha 230 Bought to learn with - at a price I could afford
Canon EOS 450d Bought because 'more things work'.- ditto.
Fujifilm F80EXR Bought because it fits in my pocket every day and takes great family snaps in restaurants without filling the table...(and it doesn't ring and interupt me)
Favourite setting - Aperture priority (or P get out of jail free)
Favourite shot - the ones at the top of this list et al ( and so forth) I'm still shooting them for me but you might not like them.

What kind of camera do you use? Nikon D700
What is your favorite settings on your camera? Manual - I usually shoot with wider apertures when I can/I aim for low ISO's usually.
What kinds of photos do you like to take? Macro, landscape, and babies/kids/families/pets

1 what makes a good camera is first the quality of the lens. second is how comfortable you are using it and how likely you are to carry it with you.
2 what makes a good photo is so subjective. there are photogs who like absolute accuracy, the photo reflecting exactly what they saw. other photogs like me prefer the artistic potential, a good photo makes you ponder the story behind the shot. one reason i like street photography and HCB over landscapes and Ansel Adams. Does the photo invoke an emotional response (positive or negative) then its a good photo. Do YOU like the shot? If so then its a great photo no matter if its full of technical flaws.
3 I primarily use a Nikon d-100 dslr. sometimes when I don't want to take the big boy out, ill carry my pocket rocket a coolpix l-22 point and shoot that fits in a shirt pocket. when i am in better financial shape and can afford to get film developed I will dust off my Nikon n-90 (one of their best slr's ever made) I also crave getting a holga and exploring lomography.

all though I understand and can shoot in full manual, for the type of subjects i shoot, where i neither need to capture motion (shutter speed) or need a small or large DOF(aperture) I shoot in Program mode. with the Nikon's you can use the flexible program feature and by use of a control wheel you can select different settings within P mode. Lately i have been experimenting with my old manual focus lenses which requires manual setting and use of a hand held light meter or following the sunny f16 rule.

5 i admit i march to the beat of a different drummer. I specialize in photos of objects that get overlooked but have interesting design or texture, or form. I claim to be America's only pothole portraitist. I shoot road markings, cracked sidewalks, stains on the roadway, detail shots of classic cars (like grill shots or hood ornaments), I have allot of shots of our Flag, churches and the Cross, my cat rascal. anything that catches my eye or speaks to me. Hope this helps. good luck in class
