The lake shot was around the first of March. Breakup was well under way on the lake but a heavy frost overnight had made for some nice white accents. I was more than pleased that the color of the lake was captured.

I spent some time in Florida years ago and could not take the heat & humidity. Back then I could take off some clothes and nobody minded. If I tried that now I would get arrested for something, I'm sure. Up here, if it gets colder I can always put on more clothes. My camera works pretty good down to -20. Thats as low as I have tried it so far. As you might know, taking photos of the Northern Lights is always a time exposure exercise. The best time for that seems to always be around 3 AM. I admit, it is hard to get out of bed at those tempratures but it sure feels good when you get back in bed when your done. :-D

Very lovely! In the first one, did you crop it? It is pretty tight, as in filling the frame. What I think would be cool, and this is just my opinion, is if you did crop it, take the original and make it black and white and then play with the levels to boost the contrast. And to take it to another level, add the photo pop preset in topaz if you have it.

Yes, I did crop it. It was a must due to the distracting stuff on both sides of that old cabin. I was a little lazy in that respect since I did not want to take the time to try to clone out the two areas. I think also that too much cloning becomes obvious. Sorry, no Topaz (?). I only have PE9. Thanks for your comments.

Do you still have the original? If you want, post it and I'll play with it! Topaz is a plugin for photoshop. It's awesome!

Sorry but no. I took that shot in January of 09 and seem to have zapped the original. It started snowing here yesterday so maybe, in the near future, I will return to that village and try that shot again. It is only about 10 miles or so from here. With any luck the beater cars that were there will be gone. The village has a lot of clutter as you might be able to note in the attached photo. If I do get another shot at it I will post it and you can try your magic.
