Well I pray I have found somewhere I belong. Sometimes as a pastors wife you live in a fishbowl. Nothing negative really and honestly. I just want somewhere to go that I can post a picture and someone tell me the truth and not be afraid to say " Lady are you out of your mind that is awful " but tell me it is really good. Then as they are walking away think, Lord what was she thinking, LOL I love looking at things and wandering if that is the way the Lord sees it. I want someone to enjoy it and if it was bad tell me and then laugh with me. Here are a few shots I have taken. I am a very blunt person I only have a very cheap used camera, I also need advise on buying a new camera. So any and all input is welcome.

I like your flower picture....filled up the whole frame and you can see the droplets of dew on the petals. Makes for more interest, and the sunrise makes the sky look like it's on fire...I might have tried to lighten the forground just a little bit because I can barely see the fence and I think that would add some interest to the picture. Very beautiful shot though

Thanks Sugarpenny I never thought of lightening it up to see the fence. I just was so amazed at the sunrise.

Welcome and PRAISE THE LORD :D :!:  Congradulations on being a pastors wife. It takes a special kind of woman to be the church mother. What denomination and how big a church? I am pentecostal myself. My church apointed me to be the official church photographer to cover baptisms, youth plays and social actrivities. this site is full of helpfull knowledgeable people who are blessed with talent. There are several very knowledgeable pros here who take the time to give detailed and thoughtfull answeres. I like your compisition skills. the best way to improve is to shoot shoot shoot post your photos learn from critiques apply what you learned and shoot repeat.

Dear Woman of God:

Thank you for your posting. Your images to me are nice to look upon. As you grow into the photographer you desire you will see more than the subject. You will learn light is the important element.

Canadian Landscape photographer, Daryl Benson, says, "The moment you take the leap of understanding that you are not photographing a subject but are photographing light is when you have control over the medium."

Light set the tone, creates a mood, enhances texture, or subdues detail. Light is the adjective that describes the subject. Light is the adverb that expresses the nuances of both action and subject. Light is the fragrance that fills the scene. Light is the sound of the image, hushed in darkness or deafening in blaring brightness.

You listen with your eyes. That moment when your senses are alert, listen as you take your glasses off. Light will begin to speak to you. Sit a little longer during different moments of the day.
Light voice speaks with brilliant colors, soft, velvety, harsh and directional. Dawn rolling in, low clouds speckled with saturated morning-color light.

Subtle to taste, soft shadows sweep the earth, and the voice streams through the leaves and rim the bark of the tree. Listening morning or mid-day, sunny or overcast, evening; the sun-set.

Sweet-light sings with perfection in its voice. Night creates strong contrast with areas of deep shadow, punctuated with regions of light and definition.

Photography, it's all about the light, baby." Daryl Benson, Canadian Landscape Photographer.

As you create your images, keep in mind that it is all about the light.

Sincerely,

CCC

Well God is good, All the time, I am Southern Baptist. My Husband is the Asssoc. Pastor/Youth Minister at Bethel Baptist Church in Berea, KY his name is Larry Freeman his Ministers beside a true man of God Pastor Kenny Davis Jr. I am not ashamed to say on here who are where I am from. The Lord has truly blessed me in my life. I take pictures for myself and the Lords work for the Youth. We minister at the Berea College, in Berea, Ky. The kids come to the college thinking it is a Christian College and it is far from it. My health is not the best, so the photography is the most relaxing thing that I have. I love the picture of the old church. I am going to post some pictures of a church in a place called cades cove. The southern Baptist Church was built in the 1800's. the hand prints in the ceiling are from that time. They said that the wood was so green that the hands that built the church would be imprinted there for all time. In Christ Spoken Image

These hand prints were inbeded in the wood when the church was built in the early 1800s. The wood was so green the hand prints stayed for all time. Until the Lord comes back.

I am a preacher's kid, so I understand the challenges you face. People don't understand that preachers and their wives (and kids) are normal human beings with the same struggles as everyone else, just with a different job than a banker or truck driver. I'm new here too, but from everything I've seen, the members are very willing to give helpful critiques. Just saying "Nice shot" doesn't do much to help you improve. I haven't seen a lot of that so far.

As far as camera recommendations, I think the first thing to figure out is what you can afford to spend, and what you hope to do with photography in the future. There are some very nice non-DSLR digital cameras with extended zooms that capture some excellent images. As with anything, there are advantages and disadvantages to them. On the plus side, they cover a wide range and are easy to have with you, so you will be able to get shots you might not with an equivalent DSLR system, and they generally cost less. On the negative side, what you have is what you have, and if you out-grow it, you have to start over again. There are also some reasonbly priced entry level DSLRs, (not to mention used ones) and the new zoom lenses cover a fairly wide range with decent image quality, and you can then add lenses as you improve if you so wish. As you will find on other discussions here on this site, there is a fairly healthy Nikon/Canon rivalry, with a few other makes thrown in as well, and everyone thinks their brand is best, possibly because they want to think they made the best choice. I happen to shoot Canon cameras because someone I knew had a Canon DSLR in 2005 when I got my first DSLR, and once you start with one brand or another, the cost of lenses makes it hard to change. Since this is getting too long, I summarize: First decide DSLR or non-DSLR; Second, chose a camera and camera brand that makes sense at the time and keep shooting.

Hello I just started right before you did. I really liked your black and white photo. As far a being a PK sweet. Sorry my kids hate when I call them that. I was given a used Canon 300d Rebel, but something has happened to it the LCD screen is half black and so is the picture. Any ideas? Thank you for the encouragement. We all need it every now and then.

Panasonic Lumix Z10 has Leica lens and you can get it at Costco for $300. I just got mine and I love it. If you buy the same camera from Leica it is $700.

The attached image was shot on my kitchen counter in afternoon light.

LOL!
Avatar is a self portrait. If my arms were longer, you would have seen the whole hat.
