Good image. I owned a Checker automobile for 10 years(they made them for the commercial market in the 60's) It had a Chevy engine, Ford transmission, and Studebaker brakes-a real amalgam. Lasted 10 years,through Med school and training. Thanks for posting.

I sure wish we could get them back. They were the best taxies ever made. I wonder why it always seems to be that when we finally get it right that someone comes along and decides to change things. Usually for the worse. Today we have midget cabs, VWs and Toyotas, that I and half the population cannot even get into. I think the new cabs are designed by people who never have taken a ride in one. The same goes for the new NYC busses. My wife says it's also true about bras.
Totally agree with you! These machines evoke a sense of nostalgia not only for New Yorkers. People of our generation from different countries will remember films - a good American movies with these checken cars. I would refer them to the world culture.
