Nice shots Hangman. It's one of the red carpenter ants - Genus Camponotus, maybe castaneus. There are several that have that reddish color.

This is why I keep my macro lens on my camera 99% of the time was sweeping out the laundry room when I saw him on the steps so I went back and grabbed my camera before he ran off.

Mine stays on the camera most of the time as well although the new Sigma 10-20mm has bee the lens of choice the last week...
