Darkness in Live View.
I'm trying to use Live View to get sharper focus at 10x zoom as suggested on this forum but the screen is extremely dark and completely black when aimed at a fairly well lit subject. I can only see anything at all when aiming at a lit bulb.
Any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong?

Still no insect life whatsoever in the UK. Even houseflies are non-existent...
Did you mean a Canon EOS 7D? And are you using Live View or the Depth of Field preview?
Sorry - yes EOS7D. I'm just clicking it over from photo mode to video mode. Is this the correct way to use "live view"?
Maybe I should RTFM
OK - sorted it. Hey it's all in the manual! who knew??

To the right of the viewfinder is a start stop button and a switch in one.
The switch is used to take videos while the button activates live view.
Chapter 6, page 135, explains Live View Shooting
I hope this helps.
In video mode, your lens automatically stops-down for proper exposure. You want Live View only, with aperture wide open. Once manually focused, your shutter button will stop-down aperture for photo capture.
Thanks for the replies and sorry for wasting your time. I seem to have an inbuilt aversion for manuals... Cheers
When my wife asks me a question about her car, I tell he to ask Man-u-el. She it's easier to ask me, but I don't answer.
