quail body feather

first time using a macro - Nikon 105mm, this is from a scaled quail.

Establishing a true macro-photograph with your camera & lens.
1.) Set your lens to Manual focus;
2.) Turn lens focusing collar to Minimum Focusing Distance;
3.) Aim camera at ruler;
4.) Move entire camera/lens in-&-out towards ruler;
5.) when in focus, take photograph.

You should capture about 13/16-inch (approximately 23-mm) on your sensor.
Repeat procedure on feather. This is a true macro capture.

And for FF, it would be pretty close to 36mm....

don't have a FF body, have a D7000, here is a orchid. have focused with camera as close as I could getting full flower in the picture - this any better ?

Still a close-up. You need to get closer to capture 1:1 (life-size).

Exactly! The image on your sensor is now the same size as this part of the flower: 1:1 (life-size).
