When did theft become so acceptable?

I have noticed several times in recent weeks while at a fast food place many people ask for a water class the the clerk will give them a clear plastic, small cup for water and most soda machines have a lever for water. Then the person fills the cup with soda or tea or ??
That is theft, plain and simple. I was brought up thinking that a part of a person's character was the person doing what is right even when no one is looking! We all pay higher prices because of theft and I know this small amount isn't going to break the bank but it really irritates me.
Do any of you notice this happening?
I'll get off my soapbox.........

It's a new age with new attitudes, ethics and morality. All I can say is "Forward!" :|

At least a clear plastic cup gives honest people a way to stay honest .... colored liquid indicates a drink that should be paid for; if management wants to confront violators.

Of course, there are a few clear drinks that should be paid for also.

Speaking of...walked into Wal-Mart today and saw someone hide a camera in their coat. Tried to tell the cashier at the time with his response of, "Sir, you'll have to wait your turn.". But you don't, But But. When I did wait my turn, I told him w/o him so much blinking an eye. Finally got back to the front and told some shift mgr..."I'll keep an eye out for him.". Strike 2!! Stopped by the security office on the way out, and guess who walked out the doors? Spent the next 15-30 minutes filling out a statement. Just couldn't believe the non-chalance of a few employees!!

They are part of the 'entitled ones'. The ones that do no wrong and do whatever they want because they were raised with no consequences or scruples.
The rest of us are in the minority.

I realized I was in the minority just about 4 years ago.

The only justice here is he would have been far better off consuming water rather than Sprite.

We no longer hold people accountable for their behavior we always find a way to excuse it. You know we need more "laws" or it was mommy's fault. Parents aren't expected to raise children the "village" is and the problem with that is that the village doesn't care. Character, respect, honor and so on no longer has to be earned you're just entitled to it all. It's getting worse so it seems obvious that we're on the wrong road and we'll stay there until society finally gets sick and tired of the pop psychologists telling us it’s not their fault and so we can’t hold them accountable. Opps, sorry got a little carried away.

True! It is a conscious decision to ask for a water glass and then put Sprite in it but I agree with you, water is a healthier choice.....

I was a little carried away when I wrote the post....... I agree with you. Character, respect and honor are all learned traits. No child is born honorable, respectful and of high character. Just like racism - learned behavior!! OK now I'm getting carried away again, Sorry.......
