Flying in a UH-1H Huey to Nevada from Indiana

At the end of this month, Feb. 22nd to be exact, I and 9 of our members will embarque on the longest flight we have ever undertaken. Our Not for Profit Organization, American Huey 369, was invited to display our restored 1970 UH-1H huey helicopter (a dustoff medivac in Viet Nam) at the largest helicopter convention in the world. The convention is in Las Vegas this year. We are in Peru, Indiana. While the photo opportunities will be many, the places we are stopping along the way and the Veterans we meet are of the utmost importance to us. They are the reason we brought the aircraft back to flight. I have witnessed, and happily been part of, the healing power that these aircraft have. It is astonishing. We have overnight stops planned for Branson, Missouri, Amarillo, Texas and Flagstaff, Arizona. On the way home we will be stopping in Window Rock, Arizona and again in Amarillo with a possible trip to Ft Worth to visit the plant where this great old bird was built. To all our Veterans, "WELCOME HOME"!

I hope so! The only real problem could be weather related.

I have had the chance to fly in this copter and photograph them on a few occasions in Michigan while carrying event Photographer crediditials during a WW II re-enactment sponsored by the LWF organization.
This crew is truly 1st class in everything they do.
Wishing you a safe trip there and back to your home base.

Thanks for your outstanding project. Etched in my mind is that unmistakable sound of a huey approaching knowing it meant help was at my location (Vietnam 1969-1970).
Good luck with your trip.
Dave

Thank You everyone for the kind words of encouragement. Tom, I see you are a Marine (once a Marine always a Marine, no prior or former, I know because I live with one!). You should check our schedule. Benton Harbor, Michigan is doing a Vietnam reenactment this year. We will be bringing both aircraft. Willow Run in Michigan is also doing a full Vietnam reenactment again this year. We will have both of our aircraft and several Hueys from GA. We did this with them in 2009 and it is an awesome sight. The have every aircraft involved. Our website is:www.americanhuey369.com. Lots of photos and information about our organization.

Thank You Macv Dave. The sound of the Huey is very distinct. They were "the sound of hope" to many. Where are you located? Anywhere close to Indiana?

I was a member of your club which gave me the chance to fly in 369. Thanks for the event info update. I will contact Ken and get on his list of event Photographers for the Benton Harbor event. Again safe flight.

We love them too!! I love the fact you refered to it as a flight not a "ride". We won't be any closer to you than we are on this trip. Check our website, maybe a trip to Indiana is in order.
I will post a few here but will have a lot on our website and my personal website www.kaeyorkphotography.com, www.americanhuey369.com

Ned, we do alot of Veteran events. That is what we want to do. Airshows are, dare I say, "secondary" to Veteran events. We were in Ft. Jennings, Ohio last year for their Bicentennial. It was a great event! We have been in Celina and Van Wert also. Contact John Walker @ 765-469-2727 for more information about scheduling an event. Thanks Ned!!
