A couple I'd like to share. Comments and advice welcomed
Really, really like the second one. I love the black and white with the color flower. Really, really great shot.
Thanks, Travis. I'm glad you like it.
Great shots, Robert. What lens did you use to get the moon shot? Shots that I take of the moon, even with a 70-300 telephoto, always end up with the moon looking so small compared to the rest of the picture. Thanks in advance for your reply!
Hello cybermomm,
These shots were taken with a Panasonic Lumix FZ40 with full zoom at 24X which is equivelant to 600mm (35mm). The Cactus flower was photoshopped for the effect but the moon shot was untouched...only cropped.
OK, that explains it. Thanks, Robert.
Nice photos.
I use Elements 8. Does it have the ability to put color in a b&w shot like you did on that one?
My daughter had asked me if it is possible and I have yet to find any info on it/
Thx!!

Hi Kramer,
Not too versed with Elements but under your "colors" tab you should have a "Grey Scale" selection. You can apply this to the entire picture or to a layer.
One way to put color in B&W is do the background layer in color do a copy layer on top of it that you have changed the color picture into B&W or Sipia or any other color you want and then erase the parts you want in color and the color layer will show where you have erased. I use elements 8 Dave
Love the cactur photo and the black and white background is very effective. Go to google and look up the Rule of Threes. It helps with composition. The eye is naturally drawn to the sides of the photo so it is much more artful to put the flower off center. The rule of threes explains exactly how to pick the right position for your main subject. Basically the subject should be towards an edge but not centered on the edge either.

It's been a few times now where I've heard the term "Rule of Threes. I will google it, Thanks.
