Hello: I have been reading you discussion for several months and have learned much. I appreciate all of your opinions.....I love all sort of photography....I have 5 lenses with my nikon d 90...50mm 1.4 prime,18-105 nikkor,55-200vr and 70-300mm nikkor...I use my 18-105mm the most but I am also interest in portrait photography...I am 78 have been taking pics for years but still like a newbie.. I am the" church photographer" and take most all my pics including the portrait shots with my 18-105. My question is
with my present equipment which lens would be my best to use for quality portrait shots
Thank you for help on the 50mm lens....would you also use the 50mm for family groups of 5 or 6 people?
From my old film days, the nifty fifty was the only way to go. Today, believe it or not, I keep the 70-300 lens on my D-90 and rarely change it for anything. Sometimes I have to back up a bit to get the 70 to focus for portraits, but I just like it best. I have several others as well. I keep a 18-55 on my D50. I am 79 and all that stuff is just heavy, so the D90 and lens is my walk around unit. The rest stays in the bag in the truck.
