Keith thanks for bringing this discussion forward so we can learn from each other. I like all of her points and think they are right on the spot. I did notice that in the DPS Forum things swung more into directing than one person shooting.
My wife & kids used to say I was a authority maniac, had to be in control (was true until first heart attack). BUT! I don't shoot people without being in total control, period! That is the only way I can control the shoot quality.
I use a shoot or photo director for any people /animal shots. We with client set up the shoot in advance. I have learned the hard way every thing must be rehearsed. Lighting positioned an marked backgrounds on set up marks, distances calculated and marked. And yatta-yadda.
I'm typically pretty busy with shots, the director and model have went over each pose that we are going to shoot before, now the director watches for pose performance and makes minor encouraged adjustment, plus I use cheap full length mirrors so the model can see and make adjustments.
Plus I'm a fat old man, I don't speak the language of those under 60 very well. So the director knows the styles and what's popular, me I just like taking pictures.
There are lots of books on posing, clothing, make up, and hair. Buy them then let your model pick with you the poses.
I hit a lucky bit on modeling back in the 70's I had an office in southern Cal. Next door was Barbason School of Modeling. The walls were thin and the girls pretty plus they wanted the girls to perform in front of an audience. Next office down was photography (they shot for Morris and several publications) hanging out I learned how the models were trained.
All points are good, just get someone else to direct but remember you have to have total control.
I didn't have control of the shoot!

The points discussed are pretty good in my opinion. Hope others will study and provide feedback on them.
