I'm falling in love with prime lenses but I wonder if they work for birding and BIF and other constantly changing views. It's too cold here now to get out and find out myself.
Only the better photographers do..............
Why "better"? Is it that tricky?

That's all I use...can post a shot or 2 if you like.
Yes Pleeeeze! And if you can tell what lenses you used.

Like MT said....they are a bit tricky and you'll need to practice...practice...and then some.
OK. I'm impressed with your photos and the lens.

Which lens are you going to use?..for birds you'll need a huge one.

Why not use a prime lens, if it works then use it,the photo is what counts.
I'm just getting started with a 50 mm 1.8 on my brand new D 600. I'll keep edging up in size as soon as my bank account gets over the shock of the D600 and a 24-85 for it. I kept my 70-300 from my D90. Those three will have to do for a while. What do you consider the biggest, comfortably hand- held prime to be?

For me I've only used the 180 with a 2x TC behind it...and it does get heavy after awhile. Maybe rent one for a weekend if you can...perhaps a 300 F4 and give it a try. I also use the Bower 500mm F8 lens...almost twice as hard to work with but for 120 bucks and mounting adapter...fun to play with.
I use a 300 f4 L and and a 70 200 f4 L, both with good results. The 300 is my favorite as it seems to be little sharper and focus faster.

Ill have to check out the 300 and see if I can handle it. Sue
