...or trying to. I've been house bound with a bad back and had to make do the local visitors. It was a good chance to practice.

Thanks for the kind words. Overall, I'm pleased with the new lens. It's a bit challenging and I learn something new every day.

Very nice set of shots...I'd vote for the fourth one...looks like a deck rail...outstanding.

I wish (in a nice way) people would say what gear they use as it helps when commenting.
I am honest and will not say "great set", sorry.
It appears from the shots (have no idea what 2 is) that you are cropping far too much as none have any real detail.
Knowing the lens and camera would help.
1st and last are about as sharp as they get, 2 is a miss, 5,7,8 are VERY well caught but unsharp.
My guess would be that you have the camera on auto, and are using all the focus points instead of just the centre one, and not using a tripod.
If I can be any help pm me.

Very nice shots. I hope your back gets better. I've had two giant surgeries on mine. Not fun.

Loved all of them Vicksart. Beautifully taken. Hope your back improves for you soon :D

Sorry to read about you having a bad back. I know a man who's very good at back massage and doing a bit of physiotherapy. I know it's quite a long way, but for a very small fee I could be there in under a week. I could go and see colo43 at the same time, she has a bad knee that I could treat also. Are you anywhere near Colorado ?

What a grouping, I cannot decide. Sorry about your set back
Lovely shots, you must be a lovely person...

I hope your up and about soon. Knowing how painful it can be.
Love your shots..
What bird is the top photo, I've never seen one like this before.

I love the depth of field on #1, that background really enhances the overall image. #2 might be too closely cropped as suggested (making technically imperfect), but I really like the composition. Maybe you could play with it in an editor, if that's your thing. #3: even if bird is slightly out of focus, I think the overall composition (and again, with great background) is adorable!

First of all...I'm using a Pentax K-7 with a 300 mm. In most cases I did use a tripod, but you're right about about the auto focus. I need to go back to the manual and learn how to set the focus.
I did crop too much in the second, but probably didn't have good definition anyway. I just liked the composition and the abstract quality. It might have made a good reference photo for a painting. I know it doesn't hold its own as a photograph. Maybe it would have been better to send it to trash.
The last one was the best of the series of that bird. I used a fence post to steady the camera and probably shouldn't even take the camera out without at least a monopod.
There's much to learn. At least when I'm confined to the house I can run back and forth to the computer to see what settings have produced what result (I can't always tell from the LCD screen, especially when the light is too bright).
Thanks for your input. I know it takes time to give helpful suggestions and I appreciate it.
