All the previously posted framed images have been outstanding and very well done. Thought I would try this as it doesn't really fit most of the shots we see here. Sort of a heavy metal frame with a heavy metal image.

Now that's one cool image and frame! How did you make the frame, screws and all? I would like to see the straight image as well. Good work.

Excellent shot as it is

however the frame didnt do much to the shot for me as it was so I widened the image to be slightly wider than the screen - with just under half the frame width and it looks amazing.

Thanks for posting

Karl

I think that the "industrial" theme fits this shot well...another idea would be rivets (like you see in the seams of the aircraft skin in the picture)

but..yes..it works well for me.

PS: not sure but it looks over sharpened to me (the aircraft)

Hey UP-2-IT.

As you requested comment - my 2 cents worth. Although there's a place for them, I've never really liked ornate frames. I feel I understand your thinking on this one ie, the mechanical/machinery, industrial look of the aircraft matched by the frame. And it looks OK - I could just imagine it on the wall at the aero club. However I'm of the opinion that the picture should be the hero and not the frame..... but that's only my personal opinion. Thanks for the opportunity to comment.

Love the plane shot, which should be the focus but my eyes keep going to the frame. Good idea but I feel the wrong applicaiton.

Appreciate all your comments, always good to see through a different set of eyes.
The frame was originally released by Steve Rich on his web site "Another Rich Collection" he has since merged with "Aiken HD". It is close to his original release with a few minor changes. As I had the action for the frame for quite a while now, this is actually the first time I tried it. Found the shot filed away and figured it for a good match with the frame.

For me, the frame is much to heavy for the shot and it overwhelms it. The focus should be one the plane and the detail in the mountains. They should pop. The frame should be noticed after the picture if at all.

The best bet is always to use a color complimentary to the picture. I hope you don't mind, but I took the liberty of putting a couple of sample frames on it so you can see what I mean.

Also, width should be either narrower than the one you used or wider, depending on your preference.

Hope it helps.

As I mentioned earlier that this was actually the first time I used it, I agree with your statement about the not overwelmimg the shot. Think the main reason I used the heavy frame was that whenever I put a frame on a shot i try to imagine where the picture would be the most appropraitly hung or displayed. A wall in an old timey mechanics shop in some aerodrome back in the 40's.
Thats my thinking.
Of the three that you used I would go with #1, with perhaps a small amount of texture on it. Yhey all 3 ara very good, none of them do a disservice to the picture. Appreciate your responding in this manner.

I totally understand the way you were thinking and that is a big part of it. The shot is excellent and should absolutely stand out. I really didn't want to seem like I was interfering. I've done a lot of framing. I just chose these 3 as examples. I bet if you look around you can find a frame that coordinates well and has the look that fits the atmosphere where it will be displayed. Perhaps a blue-gray metal. All the best,

No Pinky, there was absolutely NO interference on your part. As I said earlier I appreciate your taking the initiative to state your thinking and to also take the shots and more so than tell your opinion but you showed your opinion and shared your input. Right, if I were framing it for display it would have been along your lines for sure.
THANKS !!!
