A society set up to help re-home racing greyhounds on retirement. Usually they are put down because the owners do not want them.
Greyhound Rescue Exhibition No1
HEART
Loc: God's Country - COLORADO
Curious - we used to have a greyhound park; long ago abandoned (betting has gone to the internet instead). Does anyone breed greyhounds; or better yet, why? They are cool animals, but would assume they need a lot of space and runs.

Still a popular sport in Great Britain, a profession for some Kennel maids etc.
here is some track information.

http://www.dog-track.co.uk/Thanks for the info, macro - I learned something today! Good luck in finding good homes. I'm sending this to a person who rescues dalmations here in the states. Might spark her interest. Have a great week!
Nice picture Macro and good luck with the exhibition.
Heart, curiously greyhounds do not need a lot of exercise. They make very good pets and are quite happy lounging around. They probably need as much exercise as the average pooch, but will need a large area as they will sometimes take off and run very fast, but not for long. We have a kennels locally that rehomes ex-racing greyhounds.
Your friend with her dalmatians will know about a lot of exercise, they were bred as carriage dogs and ran behind the carriage. We have several locally and the owners are out for 1 -2 hours exercising them. I think I will stick to my little Labrador and large Retriever.

Thanks for the info, Malcom. We have two chows, 2-years old; have had the breed for 30 years. These are the last of a litter (a brother & sister - both spayed & neutered); doubtful we'll replace them when they pass. Thanks for the history!
my daughter bought a rescue greyhound. She would run with every day. She would run on a high school track. I've forgotten how far she said is was to go around but on the second time around the dog would lay down at the starting point and wait for her to go around. They would go home and the dog would go to rug and catch some zzzs. I thought the same thing about needing a lot of exercise but they don't. He was a couch potato.

Thanks folks for your comments, very interested in your stories.
A whole bunch of years ago I saw a sign in Hobart that said "No exercising of greyhounds on beach".
I had a rescued racing Greyhound that had raced for four years (until retired at 6-years old), which is a long run for most. Had her for just over 5 years before health issues necessitated putting her down. Greyhounds are some of the most docile dogs you will ever find. Contrary to popular belief, they do not require a lot of space and runs. Most greyhound owners would probably say their pet was a couch potato. Mine loved to go for her evening walk, or any walk for that matter. Mine had the softest brown eyes that melted your heart. And I was luckey enough to have one that greated your return home with a genuine smile to accompany her wagging tail. I miss Grace (Gracie), a lot.

I dont know of any dog tracks around here. But I know they have them in Florda. I do know two people that have rescued grayhonds. They seem very gentle dogs.
I've heard that greyhounds make wonderful, sweet pets. Pretty photo.
