I have seen reference on here a number of times for Zeiss lens claening tissues from WALMART. I went to WALMART this AM and they could only find Bausch + Lomb Premoistened lens cleaning tissue 50 count for $ 2.97. Contains Isopropyl Alcohol.

Are these the same? Any issues with tissues moistened with Alcohol?

The Zeiss wipes are located in the eye glass section, not in photo supplies. No alcohol.

Thanks I was in the eyeglass section, No Zeiss wipes but guess I'll return the Bausch and Lomb.
Just checked and found them on-line and confirmed that the store I was in doesn't carry them. I found them at another store. Thanks again

Zeiss lens cloths contain isopropyl alcohol- says so right on the packet though doesn't indicate the amount as a percentage. The packets also say they are made to clean lenses with anti-reflective multi-layer coatings. I imagine the B&L are about the same...

Actually David I thought the same thing and then went on line and found:

Zeiss Clean Screen Wipes:
•Individually wrapped, premoistened, electronics-safe cleaning cloths in a durable resalable pouch
•Ammonia-, alcohol- and lint-free
•Smudge-free and static resistant
•Includes 20

So I think I'll return the Baush + Lomb and go to the store that has the Zeiss.

I picked up a box of Zeiss wipes at Sam's club. 200 wipes for $8.97.

Skip, I have packets purchased at Walmart, optical dept. labeled "Zeiss Lens Cloth". Perhaps they make more than one but these are clearly labeled that they contain alcohol and are made to clean lenses with anti-reflective multi-layer coatings.

David, Thanks. The Walmart in Hanover carries nothing. The one in Weymouth carries the 20 Pak's as described above but they clearly state that they are alcohol free. Clearly they make several types. With yours how many to a package and can I assume that they are use once and throw away? Heading out of town Friday and just looking for someting throw away and inexpensive to throw in the bag.

Yes, one cloth per package, single use. When I last bought these they were in a box that contained at least 100 packets. BTW, is there a problem with alcohol? I just checked the liquid Zeiss sells in a spray bottle. It too has alcohol and is labeled for use on eyeglasses lens with coatings. Why would Zeiss of all people market these Lens Cleaner packets labeled as I described I the previous post if they were harmful to the lenses they are sold to clean? I'm confused.
Hope you have a good trip.

Those are different from the lens wipes they are the ones they sell for LCD's and computer screens I would stay away from them for lens they leave a anti static residue behind

Kimwipes, available online everywhere, are dry, lint free, very soft, and work well for lenses. As to moistening, for years a long time ago, Pentax recommended the moisture of your breath, which does work. Not so good if you dip your lens into tar, but otherwise okay. ;)

So what is the definitive word on using alcohol impregnated wipes on Nano Coated $2,300 Nikon Lenses?

This website addresses the question as follows: "Isopropyl alcohol is certainly used as a cleaning agent but is a solvent and can damage the coating on your lenses."

Most I can find is that nano coating is fragile and is only applied to internal lens elements. Should be okay to clean same as other lenses. Just be sure it's a clean T-shirt. ;)
