It's pretty miserable outside so I thought I'd play around with photoshop a little. Your critique please.
Beautiful! Should be an ad for diamond earrings.
I like the way this goes against the grain of good photographic technique, successfully. The flattened tones and good composition, not to mention the look of the woman, create a graphic yet moody piece. I would like it better without the diamond push. With it, an ad; without it, art maybe.
Fine dodging and burning. Nice subtle contrast of shape with the background.

I can live with the noise but the rest is too flat and a lack of contrast. Her chin is almost lost in her neck, no shape to her face due to flat lighting and her eyes lack sparkle. A true Photoshop adventure would be to now take this original image and work it the other way to add the contrast, modelling light to shape the face and add sparkle to the eyes. Anyone can flatten an image and reduce the contrast and add a little white vignette, let's see you work some magic back into the image.

Lucian, we might have an interesting debate here! I think anyone can do what you say and have a decent portrait, but I like the overall tension much more than I'd like just another overly-pretty face. Seeing this lovely woman in a flattened way just makes her more mysterious, and "hooks" me in a more memorable way than a look and forget shot would. Whadya think?

Well yes an interesting look is always something for us to view, however a flat look and washout little contrast look does not make for an interesting portrait no matter who the sitter is. No disrespect to the maker but this does not pull me in, nor make me think of anything mysterious.
On another note, might clone in some upper eyelashes on the inside of her left eye.
Flash - love it - spent several minutes just gazing at her and I gree with artBob - the ear ring draws my attention away from her natural beauty.

Yes, she is very pretty and takes a really nice photo. The photo of her is great, even the two catch lights in both eyes after the treatment. I cant say I am in love with the treatment and believe the original photo is probably better but I do understand the importance of play time as learning time. To that end, good job with what was probably a wonderful photo of a beautiful young lady.
Thanks! for your input...all of you. The photo was just a quick snap at a recent wedding and I was bored and looking to see what I could change to make the photo something other than what it was. I will post the original so you can see where I started off.

same as before, yes, she is a lovely young lady and while I do prefer the original I can understand this as a pick for playtime. At her age it may upset her to know at least I think the original makes her look younger which is also beside the point, thanks for reposting :-D
