Hi, I'm new to this. Have a Canon 350D with a Canon 100mm f2.8 IS Macro Lens. I've been reading UHH for a while.I also shot this in Raw, first time, and opened file in Lightroom 4, also a first. Welcome any comments good or bad.
Thanks

I believe this flower is less than 1-inch (25.4-mm) across. Your CMOS sensor is 22.2-mm x 14.8-mm, so this image appears to be approximately 1:1 magnification (life-size). This looks like a true macro, well captured.

Thank you, I'll keep practicing and post some more. I do not have a flash yet, will have to save up for one. What would you recommend?

I found these photos that I took when I first bought the lens. First one from a distance, 2nd one uncropped, Macro? they are not very clear but camera hand held out in in the bush.

Canon makes three excellent speedlights. I recommend looking at the 430EX II. There are a few inexpensive attachments to render a speedlight into macro illumination.

Definitely a macro. Notice that your thin DoF is behind head, and before wings. We ALL started like this. Just keep practicing. Especially to get eyes in focus.
