Portrait lens for Nikon D80

I am considering a prime lens for taking portraits with my D80. Everything I have read states that a 85 or 90 is the ideal lens for portraits. Since the crop sensor is 1.5, should I buy a 90mm or a 60mm with my D80?

Hey Doc ..... Nikon currently makes two prime lenses with DC (De focus Control) because Nikon feels the 105mm and 135mm angle of view is best for portraits .....

..... so on a crop sensor 85mm would bring you right in between .....

Thanks everyone, I looked at the previous post which opened my eyes about the length of lens needed. Thanks for everyone's comments and help. This is the reason I joined this form. I learn from the comments!

And remember, putting a lens on a crop sensor does NOT make the focal length change..i.e. the distortion doesn't lessen because you have it on a crop camera.

So....an 85 is an 85 on a ff or crop...same difference but the photo is "pre cropped" in camera...that's all.
