I never thought I'd pass up a Canon L lens for a Sigma but....

I dumped my 50mm f/1.2L in favor of a 35mm. I was going to go for the Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L which has a massive following...it's a great lens...but a bit expensive.

Well...while I'm waiting for the swap to happen, I notice that the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM A is getting reviews like I've NEVER seen a lens get...let alone a Sigma lens.

The superlatives they are dropping are hard to believe..."better than zeiss..." , "best 35mm lens out there...period"....

The DXO charts show that there is nothing that can compare to it's sharpness...it smokes the Canon L lens and anything else.

The samples on Flickr are amazing and the few people that I've gotten feedback from that own one say the same thing...it's THAT good...the hype isn't hype.

SO....who's got one here?

i have the sigma 30mm 1.4 and I love it. I also have the 70-200mm2.8 in canon mount and nikon mount. I love these lenses. I had the canon L lens 70-200mm 2.8 IS and the sigma 70-200mm is as sharp and even sharper in comparison.

this new 35mm looks great and has super reviews. I might just have to sell my 30mm and upgrade to this super lens.

Thought I'd look this one up. The only negative I can see is that it is not weather sealed.

The OP appears to be using the B&H user reviews, as they are saying exactly what he said

Yes, and Amazon, and DP Review, and a host of others...they ALL are wild about this lens.

I'm trembling at the anticipation :)

Sigmas quality in their EX HSM series lenses is second to none, no matter what the die hard fanboys want you to believe. Its no wonder they are the largest independent lens manufacturer in the world.

I got the sigma 50mm f 1.4, it is sharp, I found the sweet spot on the lens around f4, any way here is a couple of shots.

I chose the Sigma 17-50 2.8 EX HSM over the Canon 17-55 2.8 and was leary of my decision until receiving it. Less weight, $ and the IQ is comparable. Had Canon offered a L lens that was light weight, i would have bought it. Im very happy with how my Sigma behaves in good light, but it does hunt for focus sometimes.

It is known that Canon didnt release algorithms to Sigma...which could result in some back/front focusing issues.

What type of subjects do you shoot with a 35mm? Are photogs adding these wide angles to their arsenal because of dramatic distortion or landscape photography? Just wondering if i should consider owning one.

Those are good shots....how is it wide open? Can you post an original wide open shot?

I like it for "environmental/more than full body" portraits....sort of like a wide 50mm :)

I've used a 50mm many times for this but it's a bit cramped and I wanted a slightly larger field of view.

Street Photography, group shots....interior shots...
