Lightroom plugin problem

Just started using Lightroom3 and noticed that their is a plugin from onOne Software called Perfect Layers 2. You can use it as a standalone or use it within Lightroom. I downloaded the trial version to try it out and it installed ok. When I went to exec it I got this error message. See attached picture. I lookeed all over but couldn't find a solution to the driver problem.

Can anyone out there tell me what to do.

Thanks for any help. Gene

You will probably need a new video card that supports Open GL. NVidia and ATI both make Open GL compatible video cards.

My guess is that you have to download an updated video card driver software from what the video board manufacturer that you have installed on your PC. Arnold

In my case, the program was running very slow. The solution was to change the video card. For whatever reason, the program needs more video memory. But, before you buy the card, make sure it is compatible with your computer. There are different factors affecting the performance such as the power supply, the connection, the mother board, etc.

When buying the card, check for memory (the more the better) and the stream processing units. On this one, for example, if you have a card with 1GB of DDR2 and 80 stream processing units, it will be better than a 1GB of DDR3 and 48 stream processing units.

Check on this more when you buy your card. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your input, I'll go to a computer store tomorrow and see about getting a OpenGL compatible video card.

Open GL is the kind of video card you have. If your video card doesn't support open GL then you can not use the feature. You need to upgrade your video card. Photoshop uses this feature for the rotate tool in the extended version. I am unsure about Lr3. Hope this is helpful.

The way I read it, 'PerfectLayers2' is an upgrade for 'PerfectLayers', which you do not have.

Just reread your 'error message', my reply is wrong.

Went out today and updated my graphics video card. I got the GeForce 8400 GS model plugged it in installed the drivers and bam, "perfect Layers" worked.

Thanks all for the suggestions.

I'm glad to hear it worked for you! Now, here's an idea of what you can do.

I had this problem before and it can sometimes be fixed with a download. Check the properties on your current video card and note the company and model number. Go to that company's web site and see if any openGL drivers are available for your card. If so download and install the driver.
