Walked up to my favorite canal-side pub yesterday for Sunday dinner. The snow's all gone and the "cut" is full. Water doesn't usually flow over the lock gates but the pound [stretch of water between two locks] was so full that the over-flow couldn't take it all.

I enjoyed your appealing photos of the lock. Ohio had a system of canals in the early 1800s, the the railroads replaced them except for those restored for historic presentations.

Thanks Photophile, that's interesting to know. Our canals are as old, in some cases even older but I'm glad to say that most of the system is still navigable.[Is that spelled right?] Nearly all are pleasure craft though.
