Rather slow day for me and the bugs. For the first hour I could not get a focused shot if my life depended on it. A little breezy down by the lake. Most of these were made with 36mm of tubes and the 100mm. I Changed tubes and such around so many times I can't be sure. I don't like the loss of DOF when adding tubes or reversing lens, But you do get a higher magnification shot. A trade off if you will. I also have to get my flash down off the camera and mount beside the lens.. Just requires to much power sitting on top when your tubing, reversing and stacking lens.

The Jumping spiders eyes are getting that crystal clear look to them. Tubes are getting me in there close enough to get the look I want. Got to work all this week, I'm hoping to Find some time and a Jumping Spider to practice on, I want them eyes. I'm guessing since I'm getting closer I get more pixels per inch and my spider eyes were suffering from pixelation from cropping the photos before. Now with bigger files, the spider eyes are bigger and I'm getting closer to one of my goals.

Thanks, That's what I'm looking for in the eyes. Just have to get a little closer. My jumping spider hole is drying up. I only found three or four today down by the lake. Very hard to get any shots as they were shy and hard to reach. About four weeks ago we had a cold snap and all the jumpers went into hibernation. In the following weeks I noticed in their usual hang outs, other spiders building webs. Two weeks ago there were still plenty of the other spiders with their webs hanging out and I did find some nice jumpers back to being active. Today I noticed all of the other spiders were gone, as jumpers eat them. In the first picture posted you see a Jumper eating one of the web building spiders that took over their areas. As you can see, the jumpers find them tasty. But I could not find any large ones and just a few stragglers. I hope they are back in force and I just missed seeing any. I do have a few hanging around the house and I just might have to take down some outside light fixtures to get to them. A macro nuts gotta do what he's got to do.

The Jumping spiders in this set are about 3/16 inch wide. The yellow crab is small bodied but about 1 inch wide with her legs. I found 90% of my Jumpers around and on buildings. These were located down at a fish camp. They tend to keep night lights on that attract lots of bugs and in general lots of bugs in this area. Just about ever house here in Florida will have a few living on the house. Many are even smaller 1/8 inch wide. Look near night lights. Junk piles, shinny metal objects, like old cars. You find them in the wild also, just a lot fewer as the are hidden so well, tall grass, oak trees, cypress trees, ect.. The crab spiders are in the flowering weeds waiting for other bugs to come in and feed. As with any insects/bugs/ect.. look for local flowering weeds and you will find the bugs.
