Cropped

December 11, 2011

Nikon D300
Nikkor AF-S DX 16-85
85 mm
ISO 800
1/250 at f/6.3

SB 600 - did fire

Initial Processing as DNG in Lightroom (virtual copy)
Additional processing as TIFF in Photoshop CS4
Returned to LR for final crop prior to export and conversion to JPG and sRGB.

I usually only convert to JPEG for computer export. JPEG's are not archived.

Not sure if I like the framed structure to the right. It was unavoidable in capture and too much to remove all of it in cropping.

So I live with it.

Some of he graininess in the glass is not digital noise, but apparently pigments within the structure.

I like the color, and the moisture on the cold glass in the background. It is really and indoor landscape and with landscapes one is often limited in choosing the relationships of the structural components. I would have liked to have been able to separate the orange structure from the green, but my angle of shooting was limited. I was unable to use my tripod.

My main reason for posting is that I appreciate the analysis and so few are presented in this column.

Go to it.

I like this photo. As a piece of abstract art, it's great. Including the girder or trellis wouldn't have been my choice, but taken as part of the whole, it adds some straight lines to offset the curves of the glass.

Also like the colors, which blend nicely. The condensation running down the window pane echoes the girder/trellis, and actually works for me.

Good job. (Chihuly's work is incredible. Been a fan for many years.)

I am also not sure if I like the architectural structure or not. Much was removed. I thought of removing this portion also and replicating some of the background. Then I decided to leave it in. It sort of contradicts the abstract. They both are antagonistic with the moisture on the window.

So much for the artistic comments. I appreciate your having something to say that has some real value and thought.
