LOL, I am still learning in CS5 as well. Still got ALOT to learn there, so CS6 would have to wait a little while longer!

I'm curious, too. I've used CS2, CS3, CS4 and CS5 but the differences seem to be rather arcane and for specialized applications. I find that I can do most anything in CS2 that I can do in CS4. I think they do new versions like car makers do new models, for those who want the latest and greatest and are willing to pay the new price. CS2 is a fine program, and can do just about anything a photographer could want.

Same here, I started with photoshop 7,9, then got cs3,cs4 (but my old comp didnt run the 3D), cs5, now cs5.1
The difference are in the features... they added panoramic option (and improved them with later releases) then HDR and now 3d.
Trouble with every software they want to be everything for everyone which never works (for the client) but works well for the corporation who racks in $$$ for each iteration and upgrade.
What I really would like to see is modular software where you purchase only the basic package then add modules as you go along. That was partly the purpose of adobe plug-ins but this is not true anymore.
How many will want to go into solarisation just for the heck of creating one odd picture among thousand that just need minor adjustments?
In 1998(?) I purchased ACDSee 3.1 for $14.00 it is a fast image viewer, minimal editing and enough for my needs at the time.
Guess what? Even now it is adequate for my need (quick sorting/renaming) They have had numerous upgrades since, came out with new titles and so forth. The list price is now about $200.00 Guess how much it would have cost me if I had followed their path as a customer?
(Sorry, ranting here but this is my main gripe with all software and OSes - I am an IT pro).
Shoot! I might enjoy that panoramic feature. Hate when that happens lol.

I've got a number of gripes about Adobe's pricing. Buy a Creative Suite, then you have to upgrade the full suite, you can't upgrade individual programs. Buy one program, you get nothing off the price if your version is too far back. I've got old copies of Illustrator and Photoshop, current version of InDesign. Getting the full suite upgraded would cost about $1,000.
Photoshop CS2 and InDesign 5 do me fine. Inkscape (free) does the limited work I need an Illustrator-like program for. I've got an old Mac with Freehand 8, which I always liked better than Illustrator anyway.
End of rantlet.
Being an old guy there is much to learn with all this. I jumped from 2 to CS5-- I think that will hold me for awhile. I recently found out some of these 'so called upgrades', are not what they should be. A recent one from Apple crashed my Aperture for over two weeks. I might be wrong, but I don't believe they ever REALLY owned up to it. All working fine now though. I will wait to see what bugs are in CS6 before I jump in. :)
