Sometimes, I get bored...and from boredom... comes something pretty.

Tonight, it's a cumulative effect of insomnia... but even then, I get something pretty.

Sometimes. :)

Started with this...

Your SOH Iain in Florida just emailed me to say whatever I was doing to quit and go look at your vase photographs. I cannot repeat his exact words but he was very excited and adament that I looked right this minute. I am glad he was so insistant. They are lovely and he told me the conditions that you had to work under. Almost impossible to believe but now I know him I can only say you deserve great recognition. Hoping to have lunch with the pair of you shortly in Salisbury (Red Lobster I am advised), it will be an honor and a privilage Theresa.

OH my gracious!!

Color me CRIMSON... no kidding.
I just DOODLED with shots that were not even what I was trying to do! *blush*

I think they're pretty, sure... wouldn't have bothered to share them if I didn't.... but wow. You people make a girl feel so good.

Thank you! :)

Ian: I DID go to bed hahaha xoxo

Erv: The initial plan for the series was "fine-art still life". (And I want you to know that I intend to follow through with my original vision now that I know what will not work! lol)

I live in the bonus room over a friend's garage and don't have but one window, which faces south... and slightly East. But sometimes that window makes the most beautiful light and I really want to make it work for me.

Unfortunately, the house is one of those manufactured homes that has those cheesy cross-bars embedded inside the window glass.... which cast shadows and greatly limit both the size of the subject matter and the orientation/composition of it.

So I tried some shots of these pretty little perfume bottles I have...just to see what it would take to make my vision for the series, come to life. This was part of that set... and really only came to be because I got side-tracked and fascinated by the "sparklies" and the shadows cast by the faceted bottle bottom.

How I did them:
I started with a small light pink perfume bottle, a table in the above-mentioned window and some paper taped temporarily to the window to diffuse the light and completely erase the rural street scene in the background.

1. The first shot was slightly intensified and that's all.
I loved it like it is.

2. The second shot is the first one ... imported into the free program from Paint.net and basically just reversed the colors and made some other small ajustments which were so insignificant, I don't remember them lol This version is my very favorite of all and I love it so much, If I had money or ink... I'd print it!

3. The third shot is the second shot, run more through Paint and using the "Distort" function----> twist (in two different places with various fine-tuning adjustments----> flipped the entire thing to vertical orientation-----> "Distort" again, the Polarize function----> made minor adjustments to suit me----> chose "reflect edges" ----> called it a work of art and hit "save as" lol

Anyone can do it... but this one I really really like and felt like sharing it. :)

JimKim: You must learn that Mr Hargraves is biased! ;) *beams*
But I really do appreciate your always gracious and kind comments.

Bob: Thank you for your encouragement! I notice that you don't offer comments often... only on what really speaks to you and it always feels good to garner a response from you.

Thanks again to everyone who looked and commented.

Ha Ha Ha, me biased? Never, you are just a very competant young lady working in cramped conditions that most people would not dream of using as a mini studio. Just wait till you get in your new home and studio and then the world will see just how accomplished as a photographer over many types of photography. Me? I cannot wait to get you in the darkroom and watch you mess with 20x24 photo prints. Clyde Butcher watch out your nemasis is marching south into Florida!

Clyde is my second favorite photographer after Tilde531. Second thoughts, maybe I am biased a little bit!

Out standing T!! I think the greatest shots are done the simplest ways. It is from the heart and brain. with the camera helping at the end point. Very nice work T. And thanks for the how to. :) I just might play with some colored glass, and stay warm inside.:):)

Sometimes asymmetry "works"! :)

As a photographer, I tend to place too much emphasis on whether a scene or photo is "balanced".

Sometimes... it just doesn't have to be!
