A rock'et of smaller caliber would work nicely

I was thinking that caliber and barrel length would be two things to take into consideration.
I have a friend who is a taxidermist. I can get you a good deal on having it mounted if you bag a large one.  I really hope someone new to UHH doesn't read some of this. In case they do all I can say is we do discuss photography on occasion.

your taxiidermist will do well down south, they relate to people who mount animals.

That's funny bull, we down south must send our animals up there to be mounted cause there sure are a lot of taxidermist up there. Since only us southerners mount animals on our walls.....lol

You're dealing with someone in Michigan. They'll try to mount anything but never have any luck. Even with their wife, neighbors wife, girlfriend, the crack head hookers, etc.

Pounder35, for somebody on the darkside of the moon, we have the SPCR, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Rockheads.

I hope you're already a member. If not you can send donations or fees up here but Obama cancelled further deliveries for now so I might be a while getting it.

I would just call the hunt off, you can not buy any ammo these days anyhow.
Ok, let's take a ride in your cobra. I got to drive a friends 427 once at riverside raceway (Calif) and it scared the hell outta me!
I am surprised nobody has mentioned the use of dogs.
My pappy always took a dog with him when he went hunting.
They even have a couple of special breeds developed just for that purpose. There is the ever popular Rock Hound and the natural that takes to rock hunting from a very young age the Pebble Pup.

When I go spear diving, I find them
using rock lobsters or rockcods.

Well, someone above ran pretty well thru the caliber gamit, except for the 375 mag. I like the 28 inch barrel, although many calibers are offered in 26 inch.

With telescopic sights the length of the barrel is less significant.
In the old days of iron sights, a longer barrel meant a greater distance between sights. with a log barrel, a small bit off aim, for example half a bead width would result in less error with a long barrel than with a short one.
I think telescopic sights are a really good idea so you can stand well back from the rock. Sometimes the rock will shatter especially if you hit it dead on. You wouldn't want to be hit by bits of falling rock.
While on the topic of safe hunting, never shoot at a rock that is above you on a hill. You are likely to get that lost Indian, falling rock chasing after you.
You can use a reciprocating forward reverse
Airgun. But only for close quarter battles.
I call it a jack hammer.
