Once again I am thankful to UHH for product information. I came home from three days in Boston, and my son told me that he slipped on some ice and fell on his D40, (That's one reason I didn't get him a D800. :D), breaking the 18-55mm lens mount. Just a few days ago, there was a discussion here about how those are available from Amazon. The lens seems to work, except for auto focus, so I took a big chance and ordered the 11 cent part ($4.99 shipping). Maybe when it's properly attached, it will focus. For five bucks, I'll take a chance.
Good man and don't be hard because of a slip. Happens. My rotator cup is still bothering me because I was on the ground for some close-ups and twisted wrong way with my weight. I'd have rather it been a lens let me tell you.

2-years ago, broke-off two of the mounting flanges on my Nikkor 18-55mm lens. I eagerly await your results and opinion.

Two years ago, I fell on ice, and my holder still isn't perfect.

I'll have to see what it looks like when I get it because I can't figure out exactly what I will be replacing. I'll let you know how it turns out. He dropped his 18-105mm a few months ago, and the zoom doesn't work very smoothly.

Sounds like needs a hobby with rubber-coated props, like Frisbee golf.

I got him a rubber armor coating for his camera. I'm sure that helped to keep it working.

There are 'how to's' on YouTube showing how to replace lens mounts.

Needs to lay off the whiskey.
That's why I won't buy any lens that doesn't have a metal mount....I don't care how "strong" polycarbonate is, they break all too easily...

I have three lenses for my Canons. Two metal mounts and one plastic. When I plan on falling I switch to one of the metal mounts.
