I am not very up on all this and it looks great but what is the purpose of being able to download the original file for a submitted photo? Not that my photos are pro quality but won't this make it easier for people to download and use others photos without permission? By the way admin...thanks so much for all your hard work. Great job.

The forum will display an image of only 600 x 600 pixels. If you have an unusually wide or tall image that you want to show, the narrow dimension of your image will be reduced to much less than 600 pixels, making it hard to view.
If you uploaded a larger version of the image, then a forum member can click the download link and view it as it was intended to be seen.
The "original" version is only as large as you want it to be, and for practical reasons, you should limit the size of your uploaded images so that they are no larger than a typical computer screen. The full size jpg image, straight out of your camera is really far larger than is ever needed for forum posting, and should always be reduced to screen-size. And, if you are worried about unauthorized usage, a screen-sized image won't be suitable for printing.

The word "Original" was a little misleading? Perhaps the download should be titled something like "Larger Version" or "Bigger Size"?

This.
In addition, original means the file you are uploading isn't modified or processed in any way. It is stored exactly as is. So there aren't any distortions introduced due to resizing or any color palette differences.
