Went for a walk at my Mother-in-laws home during a break in the rain and saw this strange tree. There is a branch that grew into another branch. Don't know what the blooms look like but I'll share those with you in the spring.

It looks to me like Crepe Myrtle of which there are many varieties. If I were to guess I would say Natchez which has that kind of cinnamon bark. I don't know what the buds are from.

The buds look like they are from a "tulip tree", as we call them in the South. My mother has one in Augusta and it ALWAYS blooms before the last frost, dooming itself year after year... I agree that the top ones look like a crape myrtle. Were these taken in the South?

Saucer Magnolia in layman's terms. In taxonomy it is Magnolia x soulangiana. In south Georgia they have now bloomed out. Crazy weather. That of course is the blooming tree. The other is a Crepe Myrtle fo sho.

I've seen small branches grow around fence wire and the like but not something this large.
