Nice picture of an Osprey coming in for a landing. It looks like the other two are asking him where he had been! Ospreys almost never nest in trees anymore, prefering man made locations like high tension towers, telephone poles and, of course, man made nesting platforms. Note the use of things other than branches, twigs and grasses like rope and fishing line for nesting material.
Was this a recent picture? It would be odd to see three osprey together on a nest except during the raising of young. The one inflight and the one in the background appear to be juvenile birds. You can tell by the white edges to the wing feathers.
Correct on all points, the male was out fishing;well done! Within a 30 mile radius of Portland, I know of at least 2 dozen osprey nests; I'm sure there are more.
