What is post processing?

If I process something, why would I want to post process it? Isnt that doing double work?

Unless they mean post capture process, then you would be only processing the photos one time.

I processed some post, guess that makes me a post processor...then I either sold them to a rancher or published them to my blog...now you can process this post and be a post processor too!

"post processing" - isn't that what the postal service does to get the mail delivered?

Welcome to the forum! I'm presuming this is a serious question, and will answer accordingly. Post-processing refers to what you (the photographer) do with a photo after the camera does its own internal processing of an image.

Includes cropping, lightening, darkening, adding saturation, sharpness/clarity, contrast, or a host of other filters available, and done with a post-processing program like Photoshop, GIMP, Picasa, or something comparable from the camera's manufacturer.

Not everyone does it, not everyone needs it, but most enjoy enhancing a photo to make it the best image possible.

glad I'm not the only one. Have you noticed it only does it when you're not looking straight at it

I am not sure given the responses if this was a serious question or not, but just in case, yes, it means post capture.

...and you should see that cat in person - he really does that!
In reality, my wife & I and our vet are the only people who have ever seen Max because he's a total recluse, so the avatar is my way of showing him to the rest of the world.
He does post processing, too, of the scratching variety - destroys the heck out of them.

And our neighbors were post processing yesterday when they put up a fence for their new horses (of which I will try and post pics - they'll need some post processing to remove some ugly fenceposts!)

Of course you could paint the posts an interesting colour and that would be post processing as well
