Here are 3 more canal bridge shots from my walk yesterday.
All the bridges are numbered so that boaters know where they are, The bridge called Pink Floyd was demolished many years ago after the Great Central Railway was closed. Some-one painted "Pink Floyd, Big A, Little A, The system got you but it won't get me." Don't think it's a line from their songs so if anyone knows please tell me!

Comment and critique are always welcomed!

Bridge 97, Red Bridge.

I love bridges, bridges of all types and these are great.
Snow the slight glaze of the frozen water, footprints, very neat!

Question #1 what is the box on the side of Bridge #97, on the right side just below the brick course with the sign?
Queston #2 when I downloaded the picture for Bridge #97 to try and see for myself, I noticed that it looks like the brick course {lines of mortor devine it pretty good} seem to not be level as if they go off at an angle. Is this an optical illusion or do they actually do that?

Q#1 It's a sign saying "Braunston Angling Club"
Q#2 The top part of the bridge was re-built about 8 years ago, I think where the new course of bricks meets the old one there could be a bit of a wobble.

The sign!
The sign!...

I'd have gone a bit wider with #1 and #3 to take in the whole arch - but you probably wanted to focus on the details.

The Victorians left us so much - will we be able to say the same about our generation?

I hope there's nobody living in those barges. My brother lived in one for a while and said they get cold VERY quickly. (Is somebody going to jump down my throat for calling them barges instead of narrow boats?).

(PS I hope you had a good breakfast before going out in that cold).

I really love photo #3. According to Google, those are lyrics from a song by Kottonmouth King (nope, never heard of 'em).

Think you're right RG, should have gone back a bit and taken the whole arch on #1. #3 I couldn't get all the arch without a fish-eye as from that angle there's no-where to go back. Valid point tho'.
I've got about 14 boats moored up and 9 of them have permanent "live aboards". The newer boats being all steel do get cold quickly but because it's a confined space, warm up very quickly. The older wooden boats don't cool down as quick but they warm up as quick.
It's the "Trad boaters" who get v upset if you call their boats "barges" instead of "narrow boats"! When we drink in the Admiral Nelson canal-side pub we often talk about the barges in the little ponds [locks] if trad boaters are ear-wigging!

Well they certainly went to the pub afterwards! :) :) To be fair, the Heritage people wanted them to use as many old bricks as pos and the new bricks were a different size. Could account for wobbles.

Now, farmerjim, that be farmer talk!

I was just thinking about my brother living in the barge. It was in the Rugby area because he was working at the turbine place (GEC?) at the time. This was either very late 60s or early 70s. Wouldn't it be funny if it turned out you were his landlord.

We didn't have any moorers until the 90's. Yes , he would have been at GEC, the cut goes right by the [former] factory.
