Yikes.....I just placed an order with Adorama for a refurb Canon 7D. I thought it was time to upgrade my XSi, which I'll keep as a 2nd body. This is an addictive and expensive hobby (but better than smoking I guess)!
Definitely better than smoking.
You're going to love the 7D. The focusing system does take a little bit of getting used to. When in doubt, go back to a centre point set up until you understand how the zone system works.
Enjoy your 7D and keep shooting.

I bought a refubished 7D from B&H a few months ago and it's an absolutely FANTASTIC camera. Personally, I think refurbs are the way to go since the camera gets a complete overhaul versus the spot checks that take place on the new production line.
I just got an EF 100mm (non-L) Macro that i traded up to from the 60mm.

Love my 7D but sometimes it won't fire because it won't focus, any tips?
sometimes it gets "busy" and it will slow you down. Get the fastest CF cards you can afford San Disk extreme pros and the like work great!
It won't focus most of the time when I'm in the studio testing, no shots taken, focusing on background & it won't fire. I don't know if it's the background, low light, ?, I point it at background light and it fires. When my subject is there, it fires. Have had it do it in critical situations, usually low light.?? Almost like it needs good contrast to focus on or I don't have a setting correct.
never had that happen. don't know what to tell you!
Congrats on your purchase. It's a great camera, you'll love it.
i have 2 of them...you will love it!!

Low light and little to no contrast where you are trying to focus will stop most anything from focusing that relies on contrast. Put one of those paper post it dots if you need to focus where there is no contrast then remove it prior to releasing shutter. Anything so reveal an edge on the plane you want to focus on.

Thanks all...it gets delivered tomorrow - I can't wait! Photogdog...that lens upgrade is on my wish list also. I have the 60mm macro also and it just doesn't give enough distance. Maybe later this year....

Addictive?!?! Yes it is. I just bought a 24-105 L lens for my XTi & my next move is a body upgrade. My wife says" this lil hobby you have is draining the checking account" :). She saw me looking at tripods & asked "how much" I said, " not cheap but I will have it for years"
Enjoy your 7D. I'm thinking of the a refurbished 7D or refurbished 5D & that decision is going to drive me crazy.
i use a 7d and i love it, almost purchased a 5dmkiii and moved my 7d to back up but I decided to wait it mid 2013 for that as the 7d is sitting my needs well and i can wait for any bugs to be worked out of the 5dmkiii
