Is the D100 a good camera to buy for a beginner? I have an original owner with a D100 in perfect condition with a Sigma 28-105D lens, battery and charger. Is even throwing in a 4GB Lexar Compact flash card all for $195. Now I realize this camera is old technology, 10 years old, but one has to start somewhere. I have never seen or held a D100 so any comments are more than welcome.

The price is right for a beginner DSLR setup, it would be better if the owners manual was included. The Sigma lens is not one of their best offerings, but decent, and it is a full frame lens so it would work with an upgrade.

Thanks for the comment. I have already downloaded the users manual from Nikon. Should not be hard to print out using 2 sided printing on my laser printer.

EDIT: Or is it intentional to avoid being edited? From what I've seen here, that wouldn't cause a ripple.

My first digital was a D100, I got very good photos with it then sold it to a friend who used it for a few more years. It should be very good for a beginner as they probably aren't concerned with printing over 16x20, if that, or high speed continuous shooting. It will accept the newer lenses if & when you get them.

I have a D100 that I've used daily for several years, it's a good camera for a beginner and will give you a good intro into the world of digital. I use mine as a second camera even after upgraded several times.

I wore out 2 - D100 cameras. They still work great just retired them after 125,000 shutter pops. GREAT cameras in their day.

This is a great camera for anyone. I use mine with a Nikkor 18-135 lens. Outstanding results for $100 for both. Liked it so much that I bought another.

The D100 is 6MP DSLR released in 2002 and discontinued in 2005 - 6MP - S I X. That camera is not 10-years old, it's 20 years old. A "beginner's camera" would be anything in Nikon's D3xxx line, preferably one that delivers 24MP of resolution, starting at the D3200 onto the D3500.

Moreover, $195 is a rip-off! Walk away. They're priced at $60 or less on ebay.

My first digital camera. Birthday gift from wife in 02 and loved it.. Used it for years until I upgraded in 15. Was still working perfectly when I put in on the shelf across from my. also retired FE-2. Great starter camera.

Cant lose for $195 ... but sink more into it (except for needng a spare battery).

I think the D100 is fine but the $195 price tag is too high. I would only go for $100.
