I own a Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS10 which has a zoom equivalent to 384 mm. I am leaving for South Africa shortly and am wondering if I should get a camera with a longer zoom especially for safaris. I cannot consider a DSLR and it is way too heavy for me.
Thank you
Canon has come out with a 20x zoom camera that resembles a point & shoot. Haven't seen it except for some ads from electronics stores. Can't say whether it's good or not, but it is less than $400.00 US dollars. That would get you a little more zoom.
I tried it in store but I don't think you can use the full 50x zoom handheld. It is very difficult and slow to focus.
Forgot to suggest you get a bean bag. You probably will have little use for a tripod because they are just not practical when shooting from a vehicle. I found that a bean bag is really helpful when shooting out of the top of a safari type vehicle, by allowing you to steady those shots that are out there a distance.
I already have a bean bad.
Thank you
