colors on liquid surface

I tried this after seeing it in a magazine. They are the colors and shapes in bubble liquid before bubbles are blown from the holder. Nikon D300 camera, sigma 105 mm 1:2.8 macro lens, light and a black background. With the camera on manual and 1:1 and a cable release I had the light shining down the side of the camera and using a home made ring got a film of liquid on it. By angling the ring and moving backwards and forwards you can get the colors in the liquid highlighted by the light. You have to be quick or the film pops. Here are some I have done and the set up I used.

Unusual use of macro. Thanks for posting. Do you have a photo of "home-made ring" being held in front of camera? A photo is worth a 1000 words of explanation.

Thanks Jambulee They could be sharper but the bubble film bursts very quick and to get it steady takes a while. It is good fun though and I find I keep on going trying to get a better picture. Some that are muted I think will make great textures to add to pictures.

I made the ring out of an old wire coat hanger. I found this was rigid enough to hold steady

The soap film is created like a giant bubble hoop. Holding the hoop vertically at an angle in front of camera, allows lens to focus on prismatic reflections from soap film surface. Black background deepens soap film colors.
