Hi , I have just purchased Elements 11 I've not opened the box yet. I have just seen another post that Rick Sammon is doing a (free) 17 hour course in Lightroom. I could not find the free one but I do not mind paying the reduced price of $25 for the course. My question is what is the difference between Lightroom & Elements 11. Thank you in advance Terry.

I haven't used elements but Lightroom is a powerful program for editing and filing your photos. You can download a trial copy from Adobe and give it a test drive. If you have access to a tutorial while you test it, all the better. Scott Kelby has a great tutorial for it also. You could check his site for more info. I suppose most pros that shoot thousands of shots would prefer LR just for it's filing ability.

Many people, including pros, use both. LR for sorting and basic adjustments, then into PSE for pixel level adjustments, if needed.

Glad to be of help.

The straight dope: Lightroom is considered a specialized editing program. It does not have all the bells and whistles like elements has. Elements contains the same RAW converter that is in lightroom. If you open a photo in Camera RAW while in elements, you have 90% of lightroom right at your finger tips.

Elements has many diverse functions that lightroom does not provide. In other words, you can do so much more in elements than in lightroom alone.

The two compliment one another. It is nice to have both but if you must choose, start with elements.

Thank you for posting this question as I just purchased Lightroom 4 and was wondering if I should also get Elements 11.

Does anyone know which Elements 11 I need to get to be able to use it on 2 different Laptop Computers? I saw one on eBay for $80.00 but the seller said it was only good for one download. I need 2 since I use 2 different laptops. One uses Windows 7 and the other uses Windows 8.

Yes. You only need 1 copy for what you are trying to do.

There is only one version of Photoshop Elements 11. You are allowed to install it on two computers. If the seller says it was only good for one download, it is probably because he/she installed it on one computer already. Now he/she is selling the "left-over" -- the second allowed installation.

$80.00 for a copy of Photoshop Elements 11? Is it just Photoshop Elements 11 or is it the combo -- Photoshop Elements (photo-editing) + Premiere Elements (video-editing)? If it is only Photoshop Elements, that's a lot, especially when the seller already used up one of the two allowed installations. Check around and you can probably find PSE11 for $50.00 or less.

Lightroom or Photoshop Elements? Apples or oranges? IMHO, these two programs do not have a competitive relationship. They are to be viewed as companions.

Lightroom -- it excels at managing and categorizing your photos; it offers a fully featured Raw Converter; you can use it to do most of your photo processing. However, to be fair, it should be pointed out that in Photoshop Elements 11 Adobe has raised the Organizer another notch. Now this module is much more automated. Also, PSE11's Raw Converter uses the same process as Lightroom 4's Raw Converter (2012 Process). The only downside? Still it doesn't have as many features as the one in Lightroom 4.

Photoshop Elements -- if you are into creative/graphical/special effects, this program is your best friend: textures, layers, text, graphics, fancy filters, and so on. Also, if you need to do some retouching, healing, etc, you will need PSE.

Here is an interesting article about Lightroom vs Photoshop Elements.

Elements only has half the ACR functionality of Lightroom; so if you wish to do more with a RAW image I suggest you get Lightroom.
