First real event

Our church had it's 5th birthday this past weekend. I was asked to photograph, along with two others.

It was an interesting experience; I never thought I would be so worn out. Then there is the joy of sorting through 500+ RAW files.

Then there is the difference in equipment. We had a D90 carried by our seasoned studio photographer. He usually shoots with a DI866, aimed directly at his targets.
The next guy carries a massive 5D with a lightsphere. First time seeing one in person.
The you have me, with my D3000 and DI622. I have to stay close to the walls of the church, since I usually try to bounce. Doesn't always work, but when it does.....

Here are some of my favorite shots from the event....

A friend of the wife. She loves the camera and it loves her back.

The portraits are great, but cropping can be a great tool. The ceiling light in the first photo could easily be cropped away. Also the bag below the group of 5 friends.

I agree, a little creative cropping will help some, great shots though...

Here is my update to my first photo.

I am still looking at the one of the five friends. That was actually a table and chair at the bottom of the pic, but it is still distracting.

She is a beautiful woman and i felt the bkg. overpowered her, so i quickly cropped, and darkened the bkg., very nice work, i love B&W

Again the white and the bkg. can be eliminated to accentuate the beauty of the model. I added to her hair on the left and eliminated the man on piano

Thank you. I am a huge fan of B&W photography. Some say that only certain shots should be B&W, but I do not agree.
