Not too exciting. For size Comparison. Off to slow start. Here are two photos, both Cropped Down from 16 mega pixel size to 1 Mega Pixel crops. First image is 1:1 mag taken with my Tokina 100-mm macro lens alone. The second is the test shot. 35-mm reversed onto same 100-mm. Hard to focus this close. Will have a learning curve, I'm sure. No problems with light, just holding lens still and locating subject. Had to re-order some parts, as the reverse-mount to camera, arrived in wrong size. I've got plenty to practice.

Yes, I can tell with a little practice that you are going to be a monster.... Good job on the ant's face, I can tell you that I have learned that I kinda like f stops between 18 and 22 and love when I can set the flash at 1/16th power or lower.

Flash settings are probably the single most important factor in sharpness for high mag because you will never be able to stop motion blur your only chance is a very fast strobe on your flash.

I cranked my shutter up to 1/250 and these were taken at F/29 I believe. Will have to try the other apertures you mentioned. I was focused all the way down to 1:1 with the 100macro. I get about half way from infinity and lose the vignette from the 35mm. I just realized I had the 36mm extension tube on also.. Anyway I had to crank the flash up as the ant was Under my lens in the shadows. Will try tomorrow with the extension tube Off and crank the 100 macro back to just before the vignette and see if my my lens is back far enough for the flash. Will have to built the bracket sooner or later for the flash. Slooow Start..... That little stick trick to hold onto will come in handy. The Two Ant Photo is cropped down to 12 MP.

Hey Tom I've got a ring coming to try the 60mm macro reversed onto the 100 macro and I still haven't tried the 18-55 reversed on the 100 macro. We have a cold front coming tomorrow night I just hope it warms up by the weekend.. I need some Alone Time with my Macro. Did I hear someone say Get a Life? Har, Har.

You will be happier with the 50/105 setup, the 28/105 is too extreme.

yes found the 55mm to 62mm I think you might have to use at least two in combination to get the size your looking for. If mine arrives soon I'll recommend the seller, coming from china. www.fotodiox.com is state side and should have what your looking for. Better to call as there search engine is not user friendly. Now if you want crazy magnification get the ring to try the 28mm reversed also. You like crazy small stuff so it's worth a try also.

Tom if you try mounting you reverse lens directly to your camera or tubes you will need something like to to control the aperture. I just ordered this and will let you know how it works out. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Delectronics&field-keywords=aputure+control+reverse+lens&rh=n%3A172282%2Ck%3Aaputure+control+reverse+lens on canon lens you can adjust electronic lens using the camera. On nikon newer lens you can not

Hi Tom :-) As Geff said LOL, and just think, I only had to pull half of your teeth to get you to this point...

This is getting really serious, I can't believe the leaps and bounds in the standard over the last few weeks..and there is me wondering whether I can be bothered to put my camera on a tripod or not.. LOL..I am so far behind now, do I rise to the challenge? or just admire you guys..hmm lets see how I feel in the summer...Keep 'em coming :-)

I have always been an over-achiever in most everything I've attempted in life... until now. I'm happy to bow down to your accomplishments (along with Geff). I'll pick back up on plain ole macro photography on bugs/spiders in the Spring, but for now will just admire your work in awe. Thanks for the ride.

For direct reverse the wide angle is better, it will give you about 2X magnification where your 55 will give you something below 1.5X and your 180 will give you less than 1X. When thinking about reversed lens you need to keep in perspective what the prime lens actually was made for. A wide angle lens is designed to take a broad view in front of your camera and reduce it to a small area on your sensor, when you turn that lens around backwards it is doing just the opposite, it is taking a small area in front of your camera and expanding it into a large area on your sensor plane. So the shorter the focal length the larger the magnification.

With your extension tubes you can increase magnifications even more, but like I have tried to tell folks here, for 2X and below I really think that if you have electronic tubes that your macro lens and extension tubes are the best setup, if you want to go above 2X then you should look at reversed lenses.
