Subject: They want to blame you for everything

It's not about protecting children. It's not about stopping crime.

It's about banning your guns…PERIOD!

Last week, NRA sat in on a White House meeting that was sold to the public as an "open discussion" about how to improve school safety. But that was a dirty lie.

They didn' listen to gun owners' concerns…they didn' consider any real solutions on how we can keep our kids safe…instead Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and their gun ban allies in Congress only want to BLAME you, VILIFY you, BULLY you, and STRIP you of your Second Amendment freedoms.

Right now, they're steamrolling ahead with legislation that would ban your guns, register your ammunition purchases, and even force you to register the firearms you already own with Obama's anti-gun bureaucrats.

I warned you this day was coming and now it's here. This is the fight of the century and I need you on board with NRA now more than ever.

I urge you to renew or upgrade your NRA membership as soon as possible. If it's more convenient for you to do so online, you can follow this link: http://www.nrastandandfight.com/
Now is the time when I need you and every gun owner to put an NRA membership card in your wallet and STAND AND FIGHT for our freedom. No one can take your place at the front lines of this battle…if we lose now, we lose everything.

The media has been on a vicious tirade to slander and intimidate you, me, and our fellow NRA members. We've been called terrorists and worse. They've blamed us and our Second Amendment freedoms for the actions of violent criminals and madmen. Our lives have been threatened.

But I won' let these brutal and bitterly personal attacks on you and me go unchallenged. I'll fight freedom's enemies. I'll fight to make our schools safer. And I'll fight for your fundamental right to self-defense and your sacred Right to Keep and Bear Arms.

But my strength, and the strength of our entire NRA organization comes from you and your strong commitment to our membership. I need you in our corner TODAY.

Thank you for your friendship and your support. Your letters and your words of encouragement mean more to me than you could ever imagine.

Together, we will defend our freedom.

Wayne

Right on! The NRA does more to promote gun safety than all the politicians and government agencies combined.

The lax enforcement of existing gun laws, the non-enforcement of immigration laws, and the early release of dangerous criminals back into society ... all these contribute to the desire of law abiding citizens to arm themselves.

I find it amazing that there has been absolutely no mention in the national media as to why the right to bear arms is really in the constitution. Thomas Jefferson was not alone when he said that the right to bear arms above all, was to keep the tyranny of government at bay. Otherwise there would be no need for such a provision. What people do not seem to understand is that this can really happen.
The recent events involving firearms are a tragedy and can not be taken lightly. There are many people out there who mean well including the President of the United States who want to help' but by making more restrictions is not a solution by any means. I definetely have no answer either. Unfortunately, this sort of thing will happen again. I just wish that these crazies use bathtubs instead of guns to invoke their destruction. Obviously this is not going to happen.

Yeah, I remember when as a kid I belonged to the NRA and every month I got a magazine from them and in the back were all sorts of adds for buying guns and I would look at them and dream of owning a rifle...but then one day Jack Kennedy was shot dead by a guy using the same kind of rifle I was thinking of buying (for the low low price of only $39.95) and I thought.......nope I don't wanna own a gun whose main intent is to kill people.

Having just heard President Obama's speech concerning his 23 Executive Orders on the radio, I have a few observations:
It was every bit the "dog and pony show" I was expecting, no more, no less. But some of it was still definitely good. I sold guns in a retail shop for over 10 years. In 1994 we were required to start running background checks on handgun purchases, followed about a year later to include long guns. At first we hated it (any new procedure was to be hated) but it wasn't long before we found ourselves appreciating the immense responsibility it lifted from us. No longer did we have to trust our instincts about whether we were dealing with Mr. Good Guy or Mr. Bad Guy. It was all there, in black and white.

We had a few customers who were collectors and , as such, were constantly purchasing and trading to upgrade their collections. They complained that they had no way to be so sure of their buyers, like we did; and, in fact, they didn't. One such customer went so far as to only sell to licensed firearms dealers, so he didn't have to worry about selling to a "bad guy". So some of these customers would come to me, asking "what can we do?" I had to say "nothing", you might live next door to your neighbor for 20 years, have picnics with them, mow each others' lawns, and still not know that he had a felony conviction 28 years ago. So to sell him a gun is a crapshoot, at best.

Obama's EO provides a solution to that crapshoot, and I like it.
When we would "run" our background checks, we were painfully aware that information concerning the mental status of our customer was inadequate. Another of Obama's EO's addresses this issue, and I applaud that, as well. It sounds like it's somewhat short of perfect, but hopefully it can be improved as time goes on.
Please be clear on this: I'm only addressing these specific issues. I haven't seen the full text of all 23 EO's.

I'm dismayed right now, to hear Rush ridiculing these efforts, simply because of their source. I understand his role in being adverse to Obama at any cost, but in this case it seems counterproductive. Oh, well...

Here's a link with all 23 eo's listed.
Looks fairly innocuous to me but I know a small group of people will have fits over it because they have fits over anything that mentions guns.
Take a look at the list:

Here Are The 23 Executive Orders On Gun Safety Signed Today By The President

President Barack Obama signs a series of executive orders about the administration's new gun law proposals as children who wrote letters to the White House about gun violence, (L-R) Hinna Zeejah, Taejah Goode, Julia Stokes and Grant Fritz, look on. (Photo by Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images)

President Obama has signed 23 executive orders designed to address the problem of gun violence in America. The following are the items addressed:

Gun Violence Reduction Executive Actions:

1. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system.

2. Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making information available to the background check system.

3. Improve incentives for states to share information with the background check system.

4. Direct the Attorney General to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks.

5. Propose rulemaking to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun.

6. Publish a letter from ATF to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers.

7. Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign.

8. Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes (Consumer Product Safety Commission).

9. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations.

10. Release a DOJ report analyzing information on lost and stolen guns and make itwidely available to law enforcement.

11. Nominate an ATF director.

12. Provide law enforcement, first responders, and school officials with propertraining for active shooter situations.

13. Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime.

14. Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control toresearch the causes and prevention of gun violence.

15. Direct the Attorney General to issue a report on the availability and most effectiveuse of new gun safety technologies and challenge the private sector to developinnovative technologies.

16. Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patientsabout guns in their homes.

17. Release a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibitsthem from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities.

18. Provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers.

19. Develop model emergency response plans for schools, houses of worship and institutions of higher education.

20. Release a letter to state health officials clarifying the scope of mental health services that Medicaid plans must cover.

21. Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within ACA exchanges.

22. Commit to finalizing mental health parity regulations.

23. Launch a national dialogue led by Secretaries Sebelius and Duncan on mental health.

It does not appear that any of the executive orders would have any impact on the guns people currently own-or would like to purchase- and that all proposals regarding limiting the availability of assault weapons or large ammunition clips will be proposed for Congressional action. As such, any potential constitutional crisis, or charges that the White House has overstepped its executive authority, should be mooted.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Gov. Rick Perry says he's disgusted by the left using the massacre in Newtown, Conn., to advance a pro-gun control agenda.

As President Barack Obama unveiled the most sweeping proposals for gun violence in two decades Wednesday, Perry said "no gun law could have saved the children" killed in the mass-shooting.

Perry added in a statement: "The Second Amendment to the Constitution is a basic right of free people" and can't be limited by the president.

Obama urged Congress to pass universal background checks and bans on military-style assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines.

He also used presidential powers to enact 23 measures, including ordering federal agencies to make more data available for background checks. He also directed the Centers for Disease Control to research gun violence.

Am I missing something here? These proposals are well & good for I see nothing that really infringes on our right to bear arms. However, none of this applies to that stupid kid in Connecticut. Those were his mother's guns.

The sad part is that the government can slap 100 proposals down and that still won't stop nutcases from this kind of terror.

Here is a proposal for you: If there is any type of mental illness including retardation of any sort, you can own a firearm but you can not keep it in the house.

At best this proposal might slow one or two of them down, but even this won't stop anything. We are between a rock and a hard place.

Actually Wabbit you're wrong on this one. The Rifle that killed JFK was a Carcano Model 91/38 which was purchased via mail order from an ad on the back of American Rifleman Magazine, the NRA magazine. The Rifle with the scope cost $20.00. So you see he's right, it was a mail order rifle that killed JFK.

Unless of course you still believe the myth about the man on the grassy knoll and all that bull.
