Pocket wizard plus III and SB 910

I am trying to increase my photography skills (the few I have) and decided to purchase a couple of pocket wizards and a SB 910 for my Nikon D7000. I can get the 910 to fire on the camera and the pocket wizards blink to indicate they are communicating, but the 910 won't fire when off camera attached to the Pocket wizard. I know there must be something I am missing. I am not a teckno geek and although I have read both manuals its like reading latin for me. What am I missing? Another thing that worries me is how tight the conncections between the pocket wizard and the sb 910 are. anyone else with that problem?

Why not just use the commander mode built into the camera and forget the Pocket Wizard all together.

Make sure Flash is not in remote mode. Just turn it to the "on" position and you should be fine

akfishguide,

First do as sbesaw has told you - make sure your SB-910 is just 'on' and not turned to 'remote.' The PocketWizard will not work when the SB-910 is in the 'remote' setting.

If you are still having problems, I suggest you call (914)347-3300 (White Plains, NY) and tell the receptionist you have a PocketWizard problem and need their tech support. You will then be transferred to a very helpful tech person.

I have PocketWizard products and just yesterday my flashes wouldn't fire using my MiniTT1 and FlexTT5's. This problem just started out of the blue. The guy from PocketWizard had me test various items I was using and then he told me how to do a reset for the MiniTT1. He stayed on the phone with me while I did all he suggested and after doing the reset, everything was up and running again and I was good to go. He was systematic, very thorough and very nice. He was a great help getting everything working back to normal - a call well worth my time.

Hope you get it solved, but once again, first make sure your SB-910 is not in 'remote' but in just the 'on' position.

I think I found the problem After seeing everything light up on the Pocket wizards indicating they were communicating, and the SB 910's LCD screen light up, but no flash, I read several articles online and finally found one that said to get out of the ttl mode as it will not work in ttl. I switched out of that mode and 'flash' now I am trying to learn how to power it down so I don't get to much flash. Still very heavy on the learning curve. Thanks for all advice.

Good to hear, Congratulations, and you'll do just fine now. The internet has a lot of information on how to use and adjust flash settings. Do a search on your SB-910 and you will most likely find much reading material to increase your expertise on using the flash.

Two more words of advice: Flash meter.
Lots of threads on UHH if you do a search.

For a lot of what I do, using Commander mode with Nikon's Creative Lighting System works great...even outside.
