I have been reading a lot on how to shoot in aperture and shutter priority. Also using ISO to help in exposure control. Putting it to practice seems a little tougher. I will be going to Florida this winter and expect to do a lot of bird shooting. Any feedback from these three photos would be of great help. The two river scenes are from the famous Brule river in Wisconsin and the light house at the Superior entry of lake Superior.

I hope you enter one of these in this week's "bridge" contest! I'd vote for you!
Second shot perspective is really nice. Have you done any editing?

Thanks for the comments. No I haven't gotten into any editing. I think later this winter I will try to get into PhotoShop. I like some of the things I have been seeing and hearing about. It seems you have to develop these skills to maximize your pictures. I don't know about the contest you mentioned.

Nice job ya did Curler. Last shot, maybe level the horizon.

Every week there is a theme. Check out the home page toward the middle - there is a block with contests.

Thanks Joyfulee, I'm looking forward to making some birdies and shooting some birdies when I get down there.
I did do a leveling of the sea, that and some cropping is about all I can do post processing.

Bebo, after your comment I looked up contests and did enter one of the bridge pictures. Thanks for the encouragement.

Thanks JR,
I did correct that. However, I sent the wrong picture.
I too am just starting to learn with my D3100 and I think you have some very good shots here. I went to Hawaii and used A/P most of the time with excellent results. Keep up the good work.
The first two are well composed, and I like them both. Would be hard pressed to choose a favorite between them.
Third one isn't bad, but while scenic, the composition could be a little better, as the foreground elements are too intrusive and overwhelm the lighthouse. I think the point to keep in mind is 'define your subject.' In this case, it's hard to tell whether the subject is the snow-covered rocks or the lighthouse.
With a little straightening on the lighthouse they all look very nice. If you shoot this good right out of the camera can't wait to see your shots when you get into PP. Welcome and hope to see more of your photos.........
Love the second picture of the bridge but I sure would never walk across that one. LOL The lighthouse does need to be straightened a little and I would have put the lighthouse in the right side of the photo and showed some more of the walk up to it. Just my opinion, as I am no professional. You did a nice job overall and looking forward to the bird pics.
