If you get the chance to visit the Dulles Airport area this is a great photographers spot. But be warned they don't allow tripods. It's an outstanding experience if you enjoy airplanes and such.

i loved the lighting on the front of the sr-71. thanks for posting. even though the sr=71 is retired its top speed is still classified. Makes you wonder what plane is out there deeply classified that replaced it.

Zero in and keep it simple. Those head-on shots are great.

Great shots....SR-71(all engine) It's good to see the Enola Gay back in one piece..The last time I saw it...it was dismantled out side of Boeing's museum in Washington state...(the politically correct) bunch wanted to keep it that way. They were getting ready to work on JFK's 707

i dunno, bur i remember seeing SR-71 aircrews with "Mach 5 club" shoulder patches at an airshow up here back in about 1986... even allowing for thin air up at 60,000 feet, that's still about 800 mph faster than the "official" airspeed record which the Blackbird still holds...

i did hear rumors of something called the "Aurora" project, but i'm not sure if it ever got past prototype stage. with all the budget constraints, and with satellite reconnaissance and surveillance as good as they are, there's not much need for a manned spy plane anymore...
